Subject: St. Mark the Apostle
Blessed Servants,
Grace and peace from God our
Father and the Lord Jesus Christ!!
Tomorrow we rejoice as we
celebrate the Feast of the Great Apostle and Martyr St. Mark, who gave us the
following:
- Wrote the Gospel (16 concise
chapters).
- Established the Church of Alexandria.
- Wrote the Holy Liturgy
(subsequently edited by St. Cyrill I).
- Established the school of Alexandria (1st TheologicalCollege in the world).
- Shed his blood for Christ
and our Church which became theChurch of Martyrs and Confessors – 8th May 68 AD.
- His home in Jerusalem was the upper room where:
- The Eucharist was
established.
- The Holy Spirit descended
on the Apostles (birthday of the Church).
- First ordination of Bishops
took place on Easter Sunday.
No wonder we say in the
Doxology, “he took us from darkness into true light and taught us the Father,
Son and Holy Spirit.
We, as sons and daughters of St.
Mark, continue to be inspired by his fruitful life and successful
ministry. No wonder St. Paulsays about St.
Mark, “Bring Mark to me for he is useful.” (2 Timothy 4:11).
May the Lord perceive us to be
‘useful’ in our humble and meek services.
May the
light of the risen Lord, which shone brightly and beautifully through St. Mark
shine in our hearts to draw our youth to drink from the well of salvation to
quench their thirst.
Have a blessed, wonderful week.
